The term Daddy comes from the original word Dad who’s etymology is a bit unknown but can be traced back to the 1500s. As time progressed the use of Daddy became a bit more colorful starting in the 1600s when prostitutes were using the term to refer to their pimps. Then by the 1970s gay culture was becoming more prominent and subcultures were being born like the leather category birthing popular terms like “leather daddy”. As Gay culture began its growth the term daddy has become a subcategory of its own generally targeted towards attractive men of an older age.

This piece was my playful interpretation of the word “Daddy”, with the flirtatious writing and flamboyant embellished capital “D” to mix masculinity with a feminine touch. Showcasing how I feel the term is still strongly a part of our present day, but the use has expanded vastly to be used for all. We- men, women, or non binary can be considered a Daddy. Today as gender boundaries are being broken consistently and society is becoming more accepting of the bending of gender norms, this chain celebrates the progression of sexuality and identification.
